Veterans Day in the US and Remembrance Day in the UK are opportunities to thank colleagues who served in the military, not only for protecting their country, but also for the unique skills they bring to Barclays.
In this video, some of Barclays’ servicemen and women share how their experience in the armed forces helps them to serve our clients. They are a few of the many veterans who are contributing on teams across the globe.
Barclays is committed to recruiting, developing, and retaining veterans, supporting their families, and to serving veterans in the community, through targeted initiatives in both the US and the UK.
Barclays employees in the US who are called to active duty military service are eligible for continuation of their full Barclays base salary (less military base pay) and benefits for up to five years while under an approved Military Leave.
AFTER supports thousands of UK servicemen and women with their transition into civilian employment after serving in the military. It provides work placements, direct employment opportunities, CV and interview coaching, and money management sessions, as well as millions in funding for education and vocational courses for Service Leavers through Service charity partnerships.
Our internal military employee network brings together over 500 colleagues in the Americas and EMEA with interest in veterans issues to mentor veterans, participate in veteran-orientated community work, and enhance relationships with clients who have similar interests.
Our Recruiting team participates in many veteran recruiting events throughout the year to share employment opportunities across the firm.
Barclays commitment to US veterans was recently recognised by the Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an office within the US Department of Defense, with their The Seven Seals Award and The Above and Beyond Award.
The Above and Beyond Award, ESGR’s second-level award, is selected and presented by ESGR field committees to recognize employers at the state level who have gone above and beyond the requirements of the Uniformed Service Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
The Seven Seals Award is the broadest and most inclusive award given by ESGR and is presented at the discretion of the State Chair or by ESGR senior leadership. The Seven Seals Award is in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission.
