Barclays New York Accelerator, powered by Techstars is now in its third year, with the goal of driving significant breakthroughs in FinTech. Nine companies in this year’s New York cohort showcased innovation to more than 500 key industry leaders, entrepreneurs, senior executives and corporate partners at a demo day event in February at Barclays’ open innovation Rise New York co-working space.

Leveraging the vast resources of Barclays and Techstars, presenting companies are empowered to help shape the future of financial services. The nine companies that comprise the third New York City cohort demonstrate capabilities in machine learning, lending, next-generation digital banking solutions, bond trading, cyber security, data analytics, payments, cryptocurrencies, insurance, alternative investments and beyond.

Meet the New York cohort

The demo day marked the culmination of three months of intensive product development, mentoring and networking with a variety of Barclays' mentors in the Corporate and Investment Bank. Barclays has also taken an equity investment in each of the participating companies, thereby forming the largest single-bank-powered portfolio globally.

It's exciting to witness the progress and growth these companies have achieved over the course of our intensive 13-week program. Each has developed their business model, many are rapidly growing their teams and all have defined their unique market fit. Barclays is devoted to these companies as long-term investments and is committed to providing each set of founders with a partner to help them navigate as they grow and mature their businesses.
John Stecher, Group Head of Innovation, Barclays

Having received over 5,000 applications to join the 11 Accelerator cohorts held to date, the Barclays Accelerator, powered by Techstars, is an intensive programme designed to help FinTech startups deliver breakthroughs. Each cohort allows participating entrepreneurs to connect, co-create and scale their businesses, empowering companies to shape the future of financial services. Since 2014, the Accelerator programme sessions have run in cities around the world, including London, Tel Aviv and Cape Town. The recent New York cohort included companies working on the frontiers of blockchain and artificial intelligence.
