"All of us at Barclays continually challenge ourselves to do more to support veterans and active duty military personnel inside and outside our firm," said Tom McGuire, Americas Treasurer and co-chair of the Barclays Military Services Network, accepting the award on Barclays' behalf. "We are committed to working with organizations like ESGR to make Barclays an even better place to work for service men and women."
In his remarks, Tom shared the story of Bryon Linnehan, a Vice President in Compliance who is also a Major in the New York Army National Guard’s 369th Special Troops Battalion – the "Harlem Hellfighters." Barclays took the opportunity to enhance its Military Leave policy after Bryon was unexpectedly called up to serve approximately nine months in the Middle East in 2016.
The Pro Patria award is Barclays' seventh award from ESGR. Previous honors include four Patriot Awards, given to managers nominated by their employees in the Guard or Reserve, and the Above and Beyond and Seven Seals Awards.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for Service members in the Reserve Components through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities. Established in 1972, ESGR has served our country for more than 40 years, fostering a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
