Alisdair Gayne joined Barclays in 2009 as Head of UK Corporate Broking and was appointed Co-Head of UK Investment Banking in 2014. In 2016 he assumed sole responsibility for Barclays UK Investment Banking business across the Corporate and Investment Bank and in 2017 was appointed Co-Head of the Corporate Bank
Prior to joining Barclays, Alisdair worked at Morgan Stanley from 2004 as one of the founding members of its Corporate Broking team. Previously, he spent six years at CSFB as a top-rated equity research analyst, and latterly as a Managing Director in Corporate Broking.
Since he joined Barclays, the UK Corporate Broking business has built a franchise of around 50 clients and is now a top five business by number of FTSE100 clients. Alisdair has advised on a wide range of M&A and equity/debt financing transactions for clients.
Matthew Smith is a Managing Director and Co-Head of Investment Banking UK & Ireland at Barclays, with over 20 years of corporate finance experience.
Prior to joining Barclays, Matthew spent 11 years at Citi, where he was latterly Head of TMT Banking for EMEA, having previously spent the majority of his career in the UK investment banking team focussing on M&A transactions across a range of sectors. Prior to this Matthew worked at HSBC in UK M&A and Norton Rose where he qualified as a lawyer.
Matthew has extensive experience of leading public and private M&A transactions as well as IPOs, restructurings and equity and debt fundraisings. Matthew graduated from Cambridge University with a MA in Economics.
